MQTT Protocol

MQTT is a lightweight publish-subscribe messaging protocol designed for IoT and resource-constrained devices.

What is MQTT?

MQTT (Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) relies on a central broker to route messages between clients based on hierarchical topics. Unlike HTTP's request/response model, MQTT's event-driven publish/subscribe model allows devices to receive commands instantly without continuous polling.

How We Use It

  • IoT Device Telemetry: Streaming sensor data (temperature, pressure, etc.) to cloud dashboards.
  • Cloud Connectivity: Enabling two-way communication between field devices and backend servers.
  • Remote Monitoring: Tracking the status of deployed assets in real time.

Technical Details

Our firmware leverages MQTT libraries to manage robust connections. We utilize varying Quality of Service (QoS) levels depending on data criticality (QoS 0 for frequent telemetry, QoS 1 or 2 for vital commands). We employ Retained Messages for instant state synchronization upon reconnection and Last Will and Testament (LWT) to notify the system gracefully if a device drops offline. For security, we always implement MQTT over TLS (MQTTS) to encrypt sensitive data.
